Researchers to assess crime rates, public impact

Posted: Thursday, April 12, 2012 1:00 am

Law enforcement officials hope Pullman Police Department's Smart Policing Initiative cameras will assist with catching criminals in the Adams Mall area, but they're also hoping for feedback on the public's perception of the police department.

"The way we plan to gauge public perception is through the use of three surveys we're working on," said Zachary Hays, assistant professor in the Washington State University Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology. "We'll be doing three waves of the survey and assessing how the public's impressions of the police department have changed throughout the project."
