The Idaho Transportation Department opened all county driver's licensing offices across the state Wednesday, except for an office in Grangeville, according to an ITD news release. Delays should still be expected at county Department of Motor Vehicles offices, and the ITD is asking the public to postpone visits if possible, the release said. ... Facing an active shooter situation may be as likely as getting struck by lightning, but that doesn't mean lightning never strikes. That was the warning given to University of Idaho faculty, staff and students as part of an active shooter response training session Wednesday afternoon in the Vandal Ballroom.

Even dealing with simple, everyday requests, like accident reports for insurance claims, takes coordination between multiple people and departments. ... The University of Idaho announced Friday it selected Andrew Kersten as the new dean for the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences following a national search. Kersten will replace interim Dean John Mihelich, who was appointed after former dean Katherine Aiken was named interim provost and executive vice president of the UI in May.

WSU will make its next round of budget cuts by committee. Provost Warwick Bayly and other WSU officials are forming a Budget Committee to help decide where to trim an additional $4.5 million from the university's current operating budget. ... Carissa Bradley went to WinCo to buy coffee beans the morning of Nov. 30. She saw fire trucks surrounding Winger's restaurant when she pulled into the parking lot. The fire that gutted Winger's kitchen and severely damaged the rest of the building a week ago has left the Bradleys and nearly 60 other full- and part-time employees looking for work right in the midst of the holiday season.

Organizers presented the fruits of two months of labor in the form of thousands of signatures on petitions seeking to recall the Latah County Commissioners. More than 20 volunteers packed into the Latah County Clerk's Office on Monday afternoon to present 920 petitions with more than 10,000 signatures. ... Pickles glow, 50-gallon drums collapse, and dry ice and cabbage turn water green and purple during "The Twelve Days of Chemistry," a University of Idaho production. UI graduate students wowed more than 200 children and their parents Monday night with experiments that appeared almost magical.
