2015 One year ago today

A Latah County 2nd District Court judge ordered Tuesday that a convicted sex offender, Steven Sitler, must continue to have an approved chaperone present, within his direct line of sight, at all times he is around his infant child in the wake of new disclosures of "contact resulting in actual sexual stimulation." ... In a decision that was long-anticipated, Washington State University coach Mike Leach finally officially announced that Luke Falk would be the starter at quarterback for Saturday's game against Portland State. Falk played in four games this past season.

2011 Five years ago today

A player for the WSU women's basketball team was arrested around 2 a.m. Aug. 23 at the 500 block of Northeast Howard Street for fourth-degree assault. A police officer stopped at a house party on Howard Street where a male and female were being loud and rowdy outside the home. After contacting more officers, the deputy discovered that Jazmine Perkins, 21, had reportedly hit several people in the foyer of the house. ... About the only positive the Idaho Vandals can take from their season opening loss to Bowling Green is that North Dakota, not Texas A&M, is up next on the schedule. The Vandals raced up the field on their opening drive to take a 7-0 lead - but it all went south from there.

2006 10 years ago today

The Nez Perce Tribe gave the Latah County Sheriff's Department $7,500 to help pay for fuel this week. Latah County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jennifer McFarland said the gift was a big surprise and will allow the department to stay near its budget. The sheriff's office projected in August that it would shoot $15,000 past its fuel budget by the end of the fiscal year if it did not prioritize calls. ... The Moscow City Council again will debate the fate of New Saint Andrews College during its Tuesday meeting. The City Council will hear four appeals of the conditional use permit granted to the classical Christian college located on Main Street adjacent to Friendship Square.

1991 25 years ago today

The World's Greatest Athlete, Moscow decathlete Dan O'Brien, flew home Monday afternoon in search of peace. But after his strong first place finish at the World Track and Field Championships in Tokyo last week, life will never be the same for O'Brien. ... The president of Pullman's school board was arrested for allegedly using a car jack to break out a window on a car parked in his Colorado Street driveway Aug. 21. Police said he has had a long-standing problem with students' cars blocking his driveway on College Hill near WSU's Greek Row.
