Whitman County Citizens' Commission on Salaries recently approved raises of up to 10 percent for elected county officials.
According to a letter from the Whitman County Citizens' Commission on Salaries, the salary adjustments were based on a comparison analysis and the average salaries for the same positions in Douglas, Jefferson, Kittitas, Okanogan and Stevens counties.
The sheriff's position received the highest increase at 10 percent to $104,200.
The assessor, auditor, county clerk and treasurer positions all received 6 percent increases to $75,800 each. The coroner also received a 6 percent raise to $76,800 annually.
The commission agreed to increase the county's portion of the prosecutor's salary by 4 percent to $59,700 a year, and the County Commissioners received the smallest raise of 3 percent to $72,200.
The salary increases will take effect in the upcoming fiscal year.
The out-of-pocket cost for medical, dental, vision and cost of living as measured by the Consumer Price Index were taken into consideration when determining the percentages for the salary increases, according to the letter. In May 2017, the commission awarded a 2.5 percent cost of living adjustment that came into effect Jan. 1.
