Next week, the Pullman Police Department will be observing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
The purpose of the week is to bring attention and recognition to the public safety dispatchers who are part of emergency response teams. The Pullman police and fire departments rely on Whitcom, the regional dispatch center located in Pullman, for 911 and dispatching services.
"Emergency dispatchers play an invaluable role in our ability to assist community members in times of crisis," Pullman Chief of Police Gary Jenkins said through a news release. "Dispatchers have a highly difficult and incredibly important job. The men and women at Whitcom are a vital part of our public safety team. We appreciate the work that they do each and every day."
