Sharon Lynn Swanger Hanson, of Moscow, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at her home. She was 56.
Sharon was born March 8, 1957, in Colfax, Wash., to Alice and Lloyd Swanger. Being the daughter of a forest ranger, Sharon attended several schools growing up, graduating from Priest River High School in 1975. After high school Sharon attended Lyles Beauty School in Coeur d'Alene. In 1977, Sharon moved to Moscow and was a practicing cosmetologist for many years. In September 1983, Sharon married Lynn Espy (later divorced) and they had one son, Adam Lloyd Espy.
Sharon left the industry of cosmetology to return to school and studied sociology at the University of Idaho, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1997. In June 1998, Sharon married lifelong Moscow resident Leonard Alan Hanson.
Sharon is survived by her parents; husband, Alan Hanson; son, Adam Espy; sister, Phyllis Bass; brothers Larry and Ken Swanger; stepchildren Wendy Hanson Bristol, Robyn Hanson Maxwell and Doug Hanson; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow with a reception following services at Gambino's in Moscow.
