There were no Idaho Vandals selected in this year’s NFL draft, though so far it appears at least two have a chance to make a team's roster.
Vandal running back Elijhaa Penny has signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent, he told the Daily News on Saturday.
The Cardinals did not draft a running back with any of the six selections they had in the first six rounds. In fact, both offensive players they selected were linemen. Arizona was riddled with injuries at the RB position in 2015, eventually relying on rookie David Johnson come postseason play.
In his senior season with the Vandals, Penny rushed a career-high 245 times for 10 touchdowns and 1,559 yards -- the most by an Idaho tailback since 2007. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound Los Angeles native also hauled in 27 catches for 227 yards and two scores. His 96.6 rushing yards per game -- he had four 100-yard games -- were fourth-best in the Sun Belt Conference.
Edwards recorded 62 total tackles, eight for loss. The 6-2, 209-pound former defensive back also had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown and six pass breakups.
