Rutgers solved its quarterback controversy for the time being on Monday by naming Chris Laviano as its starter. Laviano only threw four passes Saturday against Norfolk State, but three of them were touchdowns. Not a bad stat line.
Las Vegas is giving plenty of respect to Washington State, despite the Cougars' 24-17 loss to Portland State. The betting line only started with Rutgers being a 5.5 point favorite, and that spread could become smaller by game time.
Rutgers coach Kyle Flood has been under scrutiny lately for trying to speak with a Rutgers academic faculty member in regards to a player's eligibility. That was hardly the only off-the-field distraction, as five players were kicked off the team following recent arrests.
However, none of those distractions seemed to matter, as Rutgers demolished Norfolk State 63-13.
