The marathon is orchestrated by the Ability Experience, the philanthropic arm of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, and is populated by fraternity members, like Tyler Lampard, a 23-year-old Pi Kappa Phi alumni from Colorado State University.

Genesee students will be walking into their classrooms next fall with brand new laptops and backpacks provided by the school district. A total of 135 students, grades seventh through 12th, will receive a new $500 Lenovo Yoga 2 and $40 Brenthaven backpack at the start of the school year as part of the 1:1 program, said Jeremy Cerovski, Genesee Joint School District technology director. … The Pullman City Council discussed two options to increase revenue during their meeting that could be passed without a public vote. One proposal would help pay for street improvements and the second would compensate for a loss in parks and recreation funding. While voter approval isn’t needed, the council had no discussion to turn either into an action item.

The entrances to Pets Are People Too are slowly being closed off by the construction clogging Troy Road in Moscow. Owner Vera Milosh estimated business is down about one-third because of the difficulty of getting into her parking lot. Moscow Public Works Director Les MacDonald said the city has encouraged ITD to do as much as possible to make it easy for customers to access businesses during the construction. ... Washington State University Provost and Executive Vice President Warwick Bayly said the university will not merge its Department of Theater and Dance with the University of Idaho’s Department of Theater and Film. Bayly said he and other university officials investigated the possible merger and decided not to pursue it because it was unclear whether it would work efficiently.

A two-alarm, nearly fatal fire at a Washington State University fraternity was ignited by an overheated color television set. Heat dissipation vents on the 10-inch, instant-on Emerson television in the Alpha Kappa Lambda bedroom were covered up by some papers that had slipped down over the back of the set, said Pullman Fire Services Capt. Richard Dragoo. ... Fourteen people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 195 south of Colfax. The driver of a Volkswagen GTI crossed the center line and collided with a Dodge motorhome. There were four people in the Volkswagen and 10 in the motorhome, and one person was seriously injured.
