A request for appeal from convicted killer Silas Parks was officially denied this week by 2nd District Court Judge Jeff Brudie, according to documents from the Latah County District Court.

Parks, who was charged July 9, 2011, with one count of arson and two counts of first degree murder for his wife, Sarah, and their unborn child, pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter in 2010. He was accused of strangling or suffocating his pregnant wife and then setting fire to their Vandal Drive home.

Parks' request alleged his defense team was insufficient as it did not employ a forensic expert prior to his change of plea from not guilty to guilty of the lesser charges, as well as failure to hire a forensic expert to testify at Parks' sentencing.

The court dismissed the allegations as, according to documents, it agreed with Parks' defense team that if the case had gone to trial he would have been convicted of both counts of first degree murder.
