Tom Barrett, 73, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, after a three-week battle with cancer.
Tom was born on Oct. 19, 1945, in Oakland, Calif. to Bill and June Barrett. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1963. Tom married the love of his life, his wife, Sue, in 1966. They raised one son, Danny Barrett, of Dixon, Calif.
Tom worked for IBM, retiring after 25 years of service. He went on to a second career as a corrections officer with the Lake County Sheriff in Lakeport, Calif., retiring (again) after six years of service. Amid his two careers, Tom also managed to serve as a reserve police officer for 30 years in Pinole, Hercules and Clearlake, Calif.
Tom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, had many interests and a passion for serving his community. Tom was an avid hot rod collector, owning cars from the 1930s and 1940s. Tom and Sue enjoyed travelling to many car shows with Tom’s hot rods. After moving to Princeton, Tom became a volunteer with the Potlatch Fire Department, driving the ambulance and fighting fires for 10 plus years.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sue, of 53 years, his son Danny and daughter-in-law Blossom, granddaughter Alani, grandson Brayden and his brothers Rick and Bryan, both of Orofino.
A special thank you to Tom’s vast network of friends and for their thoughts and understanding in this difficult time. Per Tom’s request, no services will be held. Donations may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855.
