Using our voices to protect children is a good idea. (‘Her View: This is not how we make America great again’ by Lenna Harding, June 28) Speaking to those who represent us in Congress by letter, phone, or in person works to effect change.
This worked to bring support for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria: the House included an increase in funding for this international organization that has saved 27 million lives so far, prevented millions of infections, and strengthened local health systems.
America’s pledge also inspires other donors to put in two-thirds of the money needed to continue this work, saving 16 million lives over the next three years, and keep us on the path to controlling these pandemics.
So let’s use our voices to guide Congress to do this good work protecting children, saving lives, and showing America’s greatness is at its best when we show compassion.
