The Palouse Patriots won a pitching duel over the Spokane North Stars, 2-1 in a AAA contest in Pullman.

On the mound for the Patriots, Payton Kallaher and Reece Chadwick combined to fan five and walk four while scattering four hits and giving up one run.

The Patriots’ Carson Coulter and Nate Akesson had an RBI apiece, both in the bottom of the fifth, shortly after the visitors had taken a 1-0 lead. Akesson’s go-ahead hit came with two outs.

The win bumped Palouse to 2-0 on the year.

Moscow’s Makena Rauch — a Marshall golf commit — and three Lewiston girls were selected to the Inland Empire League’s first team when the all-league golf awards were announced Wednesday.

Alvarez gets Pac-12 mention

Washington State senior shortstop Andres Alvarez was given honorable mention Wednesday on the Pac-12 All-Defensive baseball team.

Alvarez finished the regular season third in the league with 131 assists and was a part of 24 doubles plays.
