TACOMA — Competing through a case of plantar fasciitis, Nicole Avery of the Comets Track Club sat sixth of seven competitors Thursday after the first segment of the girls’ heptathlon in the 15-16 age group at the Region 13 Junior Olympics track meet at Mount Tahoma High.
Avery, an incoming sophomore at Pullman High, finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.82 seconds) and fifth in the shot put (23 feet, 6 inches) and the 200-meter dash (29.36). She no-heighted in the high jump.
“This is her first competition in the heptathlon, but she is enjoying it,” Comets coach Mike Hinz said. “She’s enjoying the camaraderie with the other girls and she is viewing this as training for the future.”
