The Moscow Blue Devils cruised to a pair of victories over border rival Pullman Posse in a AA American Legion baseball doubleheader Wednesday night at Bear Field.
The scores were 6-4 and 10-2.
“Really good defense and our pitchers did what they needed to do,” Moscow coach Stan Mattoon said. “More importantly, our offense is starting to roll. The top six guys are starting to see it really well and it was good to see some production out of our lower half, too.”
In Game 1, Moscow (4-0) put up a four-spot fourth, which featured five singles and three walks, then closer Ryan Delusa held off a late Posse rally to claim a 6-4 victory.
Blue Devil starter Barrett Abendroth earned the win, fanning four. Pullman’s Cody Isakson went five, but allowed 13 baserunners.
In the second game, Moscow scored in every frame but the sixth, including a three-spot, tone-setting second to take a 10-2 win.
Chad Redinger had a triple, and Billy Adams and Potlatch’s Kyle Lynas chipped in doubles.
Lynas went 4 1/3 and collected seven strikeouts while scattering only two hits. Tyler Horner struck out five in three innings for Pullman, which got three singles from Nick Robison but was doubled up hitting-wise.
Mattoon commended his pitching staff for limiting their counts. Lynas “hit his spots” and Delusa “picked up right where he left off,” closing out both games.
“They’re starting to understand each other and get comfortable, and that’s making for a pretty fun time,” Mattoon said.
