Stocking civil defense fallout shelters with honey was suggested yesterday by Robert Drake, Sacajawea Junior High School principal, who also keeps bees as a hobby and summertime occupation.
“Honey doesn’t spoil or deteriorate with age,” he said. “No refrigeration is required, as bacteria can’t grow in it. We know that man can exist at least 90 days on it, with the addition of a small amount of vitamin C,” he told the Lewiston-Clarkston Kiwanis Club.
Drake, a member of the Sioux Bee Honey Cooperative, currently cares for about 400 colonies. He said he transports hives from field to field as the crops begin to flower, in some cases paid by farmers who seek the bees for pollination they provide.

Lewiston School District teachers, liberated from classrooms for the summer months, will put in a lot of miles this summer traveling for pleasure and for work.
Some planning to attend workshops and summer school scheduled at the University of Idaho won’t have far to go. But others planning to visit relatives will travel to points as widely separated as Alaska and the eastern states.
At least 30 instructors and administrators have indicated that they will be at Moscow for additional training, while another 15 have classes scheduled at Washington State University, University of Oregon, Colorado State, College of Idaho, Boise Junior College, Utah State, Southeastern College at Durante, Okla., and Claremont Graduate College, Calif.
