UPDATE AT 8:13 A.M. TUESDAY: Washington angles caught 814 adult spring chinook from the Snake River.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The spring chinook fisheries on the Snake River near Ice Harbor and Little Goose dams are closed for the season.

Both fisheries were open only two days a week and had a combined harvest quota of 493 adult fish.

Chris Donley, fish program manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, said the quota was exceeded and most of the fish were caught near Ice Harbor Dam.

He didn’t know exactly how many fish were caught but said the agency will use fish remaining on the state’s quota from Zone Six and lower Columbia Fisheries to account for going over the quota.

He said low and clear river flows made for good fishing.

“When the water is low and clear, the fish are pretty easily caught,” he said.

The agency closed both the Little Goose and Ice Harbor areas effective immediately and will only reopen them if the run exceeds the forecast.

“The likelihood of more opportunity is very slim,” Donley said.

The Little Goose area was open Tuesdays and Fridays and the Ice Harbor area was open Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Chinook seasons on portions of the Clearwater, lower Salmon, Little Salmon and Snake rivers in Idaho remain open.
