In its search for the Moscow School District’s next superintendent, the district’s board of trustees narrowed down its list of candidates to five. The board is in the process of finding the individual who will replace Greg Bailey, who will be retiring this summer after 10 years with the Moscow School District. The list of semifinalists for the position are Daniel Barker, Brian Lee, Teresa Rensch, Kim Spacek and Shawn Tiegs. ... Members of the University of Idaho Theatre Arts Department are raising money for a family displaced by a Sunday apartment fire in Moscow. A GoFundMe account was created to raise at least $3,000 for Monica Pine, an administrative financial specialist with the Theatre Arts Department. Pine’s apartment was damaged in a fire on the 300 block of North Washington Street.

A new Indian restaurant has made its way to Moscow and the owners hope to be welcomed by the Palouse community. Karma will have its grand opening and ribbon cutting at the Eastside Marketplace with members of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce. The restaurant is in the space once occupied by La Madrid. ... It was a bittersweet sendoff to the old fire station in Genesee, with the 53rd crab feed held for the last time at the Walnut Street location. Next year, the crew will move the seafood fundraising dinner to the new and improved fire station, away from the 120-year-old building that houses the Genesee Volunteer Fire Department.

Jim Chmelik, a Republican aiming to become Idaho’s lieutenant governor, was in Moscow for the Latah County Lincoln Day Dinner. Chmelik, an Idaho County Commissioner from Cottonwood, announced in January he is seeking to unseat his party’s current lieutenant governor, Brad Little, who is running for reelection. Obtaining local control of federal land has been a priority issue as a county commissioner, Chmelik said, and it would continue to be important if he’s elected to this state office.
