A man nearly lost his head during a rear-end collision Tuesday morning in Pullman. According to Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant, the man was driving a car and rear-ended a utility vehicle, which had a pipe extending from its work bed, around 11:30 a.m. on Southeast Paradise Street and South Grand Avenue.

In a couple of weeks, the state will be completely removed from the sale of spirits in Washington, but a few questions remain unanswered for those in the liquor business. Washington voters approved Initiative 1183 last fall, effectively removing the state from the liquor business by June 1, 2012. ... Washington State Conservationist Roylene Rides at the Door launched the National Water Quality Initiative on May 9. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service will provide funding to landowners in selected watersheds within the South Fork Palouse River watershed in Whitman County.

The Moscow School District filed a legal answer Thursday that poses 18 defenses and asks for dismissal of a lawsuit that challenges up to $7.6 million in indefinite supplemental levy funding. Moscow dentist Gerald Weitz filed the lawsuit against the district May 3 in Latah County District Court. ... The days of joy riding in tractors and crop-dusters are over. The skyrocketing price of fuel has forced the agricultural industry to search for ways to compensate by cutting costs elsewhere. Increased fuel prices affect every step of the agricultural process, from planting and shipping all the way until the bread pops out of the toaster.

Thanks to decisive community support, the Idaho Repertory Theater will be back next summer, University of Idaho President Elisabeth Zinser said today. She announced this morning the UI's plan to come up with much of the $40,000 the university was unable to provide the IRP this summer. ... Idaho County's sheriff may have given up hope of finding Moscow's Tracy Moen - but friends have not. Sheriff's officials announced this morning they've abandoned the search for Moen, 29, who has been missing since Friday.
