A 25-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning for allegedly pulling a realistic-looking BB gun out during a fight outside a bar, then driving away intoxicated. Two men were reported to be arguing inside over a woman. When the second man came outside, the first man pulled out what appeared to be a gun, pointed it at the second man and threatened to kill him. ... The last day for candidates to file in Washington state for the 2016 election was Friday and incumbent Republican Mary Dye of Pomeroy finds herself pitted against two challengers in the primary - fellow Republican Hailey Roemer of Pullman and Democrat Jennifer Goulet of Pasco.

2012 Five years ago today

Latah County commissioners learned Monday their $300,000 offer for the Moscow Federal Building will not be considered by the U.S. General Services Administration. ... A fire damaged a two-story community center building at Nez Perce Village on the Washington State University campus early this morning. No one was injured in the blaze. Pullman Fire Department and Whitman County Fire District 12 officials arrived at 1445 NE North Fairway Road around 5 a.m. to find the top half of the building completely burned off.

The Latah County Courthouse and sheriff's office may be open again today, but operations will be anything but normal for quite some time. Latah County Sheriff Wayne Rausch said the weekend shooting rampage by Jason Hamilton left the courthouse and several sheriff's office vehicles riddled with bullet holes. ... Whatever happens with Kelly Nakashima's golf game over the next four days, the Idaho junior already has made history. Nakashima began play today at the NCAA Championships and is the first Vandal women's golfer to advance to this point since the program's inception in 1992.

An emergency meeting has been called to address the recent juvenile crime wave and the increased need for juvenile services in Whitman County. Recent juvenile problems, including burglaries and car thefts, have overloaded the county's already busy juvenile services department. ... Women's Transit, which provides rides for Washington State University women who would otherwise have to walk alone after dark, doesn't have enough money to make it through next year.
