2017 One year ago today

After approximately one hour of deliberation and a day-and-a-half long trial, a jury has found former Washington State University football player Robert Barber not guilty of second-degree assault. The jury also found Barber not guilty of fourth-degree assault. ... The Moscow City Council will have its say on New Saint Andrews College's conditional use permit application that would allow the college to expand into the former Cadillac Jack's building on North Main Street. The Moscow Board of Adjustment approved the college's permit last month, but five people appealed the board's decision.

2013 Five years ago today

Washington state's youngest politician has decided not to run for election at the end of this term. Pullman City Councilor Derrick Skaug, 23, said he has decided not to run in this August's primary because he plans to attend law school. Chosen from a number of candidates who applied to fill a position being vacated by former Councilor Keith Bloom, Skaug took over the position in April 2012. ... The property owner for Gilbert Auto Ford in Moscow filed a request in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Wednesday to allow it to evict the dealership, alleging it failed to comply with an order to pay back rent.

Since federal grand juries started probing the Animal Liberation Front in the late 1980s, witnesses who have refused to testify have spent more time in jail than people charged with related crimes. Rik Scarce, the Washington State University graduate student jailed Friday, is the fourth ALF federal jury witness to go to jail. ... Faculty members at the University of Idaho report they typically work 50 hours a week, but that's still less than the time put in by faculty members at the other Idaho universities, according to a report compiled by the Idaho Board of Education.
