2017 One year ago today

Law enforcement and emergency medical agencies swarmed Genesee School on Saturday after receiving reports of an active shooter and more than three dozen casualties - fortunately, it was a planned drill. The scenario was all too similar to many real-life tragedies that have taken place throughout the country recently. ... The Washington State University/Whitman County Relay for Life fundraiser kicked off Saturday with hundreds of people cheering on a group of cancer survivors at Grimes Way Playfield on the WSU campus. The fundraising goal of $30,000 was easily topped, as $46,000 was raised as of Saturday morning.

2013 Five years ago today

An Albion committee is recommending the Town Council and mayor exercise tighter controls over the town's sewer budget to lower expenditures and prevent a large rate increase. The committee presented the results of their analysis of 2007-12 sewer expenditures to a handful of town officials and residents Tuesday. ... Moscow School District superintendent Dale Kleinert urged members of the public to support the district's proposed $10.8 million 20-year bond for renovations at a stakeholder communication meeting Tuesday. About 35 people attended to gather information and ask questions about the bond that would provide funding for districtwide improvements.

Idaho Values Alliance Executive Director Bryan Fischer said "the chances are good" someone will soon sue the city of Moscow because of its domestic partner insurance benefits. Fischer said the group has been working with the Alliance Defense Fund to discuss how best to approach legal action. ... Washington State University administrators are investigating a professor's conduct following a Pullman protest. Ken Vreeland, special assistant to the provost, said his office has received several emails with concerns about architecture professor Ayad Rahmani's role in a protest with more than 100 of his students.

1993 25 years ago today

Members of the Moscow School Board say the school district insurance committee needs better representation. Board chairwoman Elaine Vincenti has also called the employee health plan "a Cadillac in a time of Subarus." ... A Washington State University alumnus has pledged a $1.5 million gift to endow a chair in investment management at the school. The donation from Gary P. Brinson and Brinston Partners Inc. creates the Gary P. Brinson Chair in Investment Management at WSU's College of Business and Economics.
