ITD engineer Bob Schumacher said ITD plans to widen the 4.2-mile section of Highway 6 from its junction with U.S. Highway 95 south of Potlatch east to the Idaho state line. ... Convicted sex offender Steven Sitler was released on probation after a hearing last week, serving less than two years of a life sentence. Some say the early release, and that of others like him, is evidence of a system that is broken.

A convicted murderer suspected in another killing was captured under a building in Oakesdale by police this morning after an eight-hour manhunt. Helicopters scoured the area and police dogs searched schools and homes during the intense search for William Andrew Davison, 32. ... The University of Idaho's premier researcher, Gary K. Maki, is planning to take a job at the University of New Mexico, according to administrators. Maki directs the UI's Microelectronics Research Center and has a four-year, $7 million contract with NASA.
