Pullman Mayor Glenn Johnson promised increased city development at his annual State of the City address Tuesday. Johnson formally introduced Adam Lincoln as city supervisor to the Pullman community on Tuesday, the 129th anniversary of the city's founding. ... According to a study recently released by the American Association of University Women, Idaho's gender pay gap remains alive and well, with the average white woman making 74 percent of male earnings in comparable jobs. The gap is wider for black women, paid 63 cents, and Hispanic women, paid 54 cents, for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men.

Latah County commissioners say they will likely follow the direction of a dispatch center consolidation study advising against contracting with Whitcom Regional Dispatch Center. Matrix Point Inc. conducted the feasibility study to determine any benefits or harm that could come from switching from the sheriff's dispatch center to Whitcom. ... More than 200 volunteers turned out for the ninth annual Pullman Stream Cleanup on Saturday to give Pullman's waterways a little tidying. Volunteers spent several hours picking up garbage and recyclables from the shorelines of Paradise Creek, Missouri Flat Creek and the South Fork of the Palouse River.

Test results came back positive for a University of Idaho student being treated for symptoms of bacterial meningitis. Donna Anderson, staff epidemiologist for the North Central District Health Department in Lewiston, said her department is "continuing to work with officials from the UI to identify close contacts of the ill student." ... Mike Yates says downtown Pullman needs a vision, one that will provide a long-term plan and encourage vibrancy and growth. He hopes the newly formed Downtown Pullman Business Development Association helps accomplish that goal.

1993 25 years ago today

The latest round of state government spending proposals means fewer jobs at Washington State University over the next two years, though a specific number is not yet known. The Washington House of Representatives released its $16.1 billion budget proposal today that increases taxes by $638 million and cuts spending requests by $862 million. ... The Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport has received a $22,500 grant from the state of Idaho to help buy a new rescue truck and complete other improvements. The Idaho Transportation Board's Division of Aeronautics recently awarded the grant.
