Drew Barrymore plays an accidental zombie in Netflix's original horror-comedy series "Santa Clarita Diet," forced to chase after criminals so she can satiate her appetite for human flesh.

But for a brief moment Tuesday afternoon, the script was flipped as a gaggle of fans pursued the popular actress through the aisles of a beauty store in Moscow.

Barrymore made a public appearance at Ulta Beauty on West Pullman Road earlier this week as part of an internal competition within the organization.

Employees at the cosmetics company had previously recorded the highest initial sales for Barrymore's product line - prompting a personal visit from the star, who headlined films ranging from "Charlie's Angels" to "50 First Dates."

"My company, FLOWER Beauty ... did a store contest with Ulta, which we just launched in," Barrymore said. "We wanted to see what store in the country could have the best sales in one week. Moscow won."

Barrymore met with employees during a closed-door conference for approximately 90 minutes, when she discussed the company's marketing strategy for her color cosmetics, makeup brushes, fragrances and bags.

"I'm so proud and impressed by what this store did and their innovative ways of killing the competition," Barrymore said. "We're really grateful and inspired."

After the meeting concluded, the actress took several minutes to chat with various fans at the outlet, who were eager to snap a selfie with the movie star.

"Beauty is for everybody, but beauty is for Moscow, Idaho," she said, while posing with Palouse residents for photos.

The public appearance wasn't Barrymore's first trip to the Gem State. The renowned actress said she makes an annual journey to Idaho during the winter holidays to spend time with her family. She also schedules an occasional trip to southern Idaho so she can explore the region.

"I was happy to return," she said. "I actually come all the time in the summer, because I'm not necessarily a skier, so I like hiking. ... To see the rolling hills just made me happy and it felt so familiar, being back in a place and a state that I really love."
