A new podcast series will focus on Moscow’s Christ Church and the growing influence of Christian nationalism.

NPR and Boise State Public Radio partnered to create a new season of “Extremely American,” which is a podcast that focuses on how far-right movements are affecting mainstream American politics, according to host Heath Druzin.

“I think Christian nationalism right now is more influential than it’s been perhaps ever in America, but certainly in decades,” Druzin told the Daily News on Friday.

He said the podcast specifically focuses on Christ Church because the organization is “a major player, if not the major player” in the Christian nationalist movement nationwide.

The podcast series, titled “Extremely American: Onward Christian Soldiers,” launches Wednesday everywhere podcasts can be downloaded. The first two episodes will be released next week, and the rest of the episodes will be released weekly.

Druzin said this podcast is the result of a yearlong project where he and reporter James Dawson talked to Moscow community members and Christ Church leaders including Pastor Doug Wilson and Gabe Rench.

Druzin said he was “pretty blown away” by how forthcoming people were during the interviews, particularly the Christ Church members.

“People were willing to basically tell me to my face that I should lose rights because I’m not a Christian,” he said.

The trailer for the podcast includes a snippet of an interview where Rench tells Druzin, who is Jewish, that his worldview is “not good for society.”

In addition to non-Christians losing their rights, Druzin said he was told women should not be allowed to vote.

“The 19th amendment goes away in their perfect world,” Druzin said.

Druzin said the story of Moscow and Christ Church is fascinating, partly because of the “diametrically opposed views” between the church and the rest of the community.

Druzin said he wants this podcast to help people understand the growing influence Christian nationalist movement is having in cities, school boards and other local political offices. Druzin said he hopes people can use this podcast to make informed decisions about how they want to get involved.

“I want people to understand that this is happening and it’s real,” he said.
