Washington State University will begin constructing its Schweitzer Engineering Hall on Monday.
The work is expected to be completed in early 2026, according to a news release by WSU.
Traffic revisions and sidewalk closures near the site on Spokane and College streets are expected. Southeast Columbia Street will be closed to through-traffic for the duration of construction, according to the news release.
The building will replace WSU’s Green 3 parking lot, which will permanently close Monday.
The $80 million project was funded by $40 million in private donated funds and $40 million provided by the Washington State Legislature.
Local philanthropists Beatriz and Ed Schweitzer contributed $20 million, which made up a significant portion of donated funds.
When constructed, the facility will serve as a student success building, meeting the needs of nearly 5,000 students in the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture.
