Latah County District 3 Commissioner Dave McGraw, R-Troy, held off a challenge by Democrat Carey Scott on Tuesday evening and was re-elected to another term.

McGraw earned 6,116 votes (58.1 percent), while Scott received 4,415 votes (41.9 percent). Latah County had counted 33 of 34 precincts by deadline.

McGraw has served nearly eight years as commissioner, and he said he believes those who voted for him appreciated the work the county government has done during his time there.

"We try very hard to focus on what's right and what's good and leave our egos and political parties at the door when we go into the courthouse to do our work," he said.

He said in an Oct. 25 Daily News story increasing funding for local law enforcement to keep with a rising crime rate is a priority. He also supports Medicaid expansion, which he said would save the county more than a half a million dollars a year.

McGraw also stated that the availability of affordable housing is one of the most urgent issues facing the county and is a major obstacle to bring businesses to the area. McGraw serves on the Partnership for Economic Prosperity Board.

Scott, of Moscow, has lived in the area for 37 years and works at Castle Carpet Cleaning.
