Workers from Michels Power work on upgrades to Avista Utilities 230-kilovolt power lines near U.S. Highway 95 on Tuesday north of Moscow. Wood power poles are being replaced with steel poles between the Benewah substation near Plummer and the Moscow substation near the Elks Golf Course. The transmission lines are also being replaced with larger-diameter wire, which carries electricity more efficiently.
