The INKster was pleased to receive an invitation from Moscow lawyer Linda Pall to attend the Fifth Annual Take Action Against Hate Banquet Oct. 22 in the Cataldo Hall Globe Room at Gonzaga University in Spokane. The Gonzaga Institute for Hate Studies will present the 2013 Eva Lassman Take Action Against Hate Award to Linda, "longtime Inland Northwest civil and human rights champion."
"I am completely humbled by this recognition," Linda wrote in an email last week. "It is only possible because of all of our efforts on behalf of an egalitarian future and a diverse, welcoming world."
Linda also added "the Access to Justice Award from the Idaho State Bar this summer was a great pleasure and honor."
Linda is well-known on the Palouse for her work on human and civil rights. She is a former faculty member of Washington State University and the University of Idaho College of Law. She served for nearly two decades on the Moscow City Council, and has received the Rosa Parks Award and the Mannan and Ismat Sheikh Human Rights Award.
The city of Moscow proclaimed April 25, 2008, as "Linda Pall Day."
The banquet program also includes a talk by peace building expert Joseph Bock from the University of Notre Dame and a performance of "Eva's Song" by Michael Gurian.
For more information on the banquet or to make reservations, contact Mary Joan Hahn at the Institute at (509) 313-6095, or Linda at (208) 310-6266.

Down that coffee cup and set out for the Second Annual Colors of Hope 5K fun run today. The colorful fun run/walk supports cancer patients receiving treatment in Latah and Whitman counties and begins 9 a.m. at the old Tidyman's parking lot, 1638 S. Blaine St. (on the Troy Highway in Moscow).
Registration is $35 and is open 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. today. The registration fee includes a T-shirt, backpack, sunglasses and coupons. Children 5 and younger can participate for free.
At various points along the course, participants will be showered with a rainbow of colorful nontoxic liquid with different colors representing different cancers. There will also be a "color war" at the end of the race where participants can throw "colored mud" on each other.
"The goal is to use the colors to represent the variety of cancers that impact our lives and to support those in our community battling cancer," Becky Chavez noted in a press release.
Becky is the co-founder of the Light A Candle program, which provides services to cancer patients undergoing treatment, such as oncology massage, fuel, grocery vouchers and other needs as requested.
