PHS senior earns performing arts prize from Kiwanis

The Kiwanis Club of Pullman has awarded Parker Williams, a senior at Pullman High School and home-school, with the club’s sixth annual Performing Arts Prize.

Williams received the $600 award for his achievements with the PHS concert and jazz bands, PHS Advanced Ensemble choir, PHS drama club, and as a teaching assistant with the drama class at PHS.

The Pullman Kiwanis Club gives the award annually to high school seniors in Pullman (Pullman High School, private high school or home-schooled) who have excelled in performing arts, including three years in high school as part of music or drama programs. The nominees submit an essay, letters of recommendation, and a nomination from a teacher or ensemble director.

Recipients are encouraged to pursue performing arts, but are not required to advance educationally in performing arts.

Science center raising money for improvements

A fundraiser for the Palouse Discovery Science Center in Pullman continues today and residents can help the center raise money for facility improvements at wagives.org/event/Palousescience.

Dedicated to hands-on learning since 1999, the science center’s Give BIG campaign also helps celebrate PDSC’s 25th anniversary in Pullman.

With money raised during the fundraiser, PDSC aims to replace and renew aging windows, enhancing airflow and providing clearer views of the center’s outdoor spaces, according to a news release from Meri Joswiak, executive director for the center.

In conjunction with the GiveBIG campaign, PDSC is offering a limited-time 25% discount on new family memberships at palousescience.net/memberships.
