St. Mark’s Episcopal Church to observe All Saints Day
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will observe All Saints Day at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 111 S. Jefferson St., in Moscow. There will be a potluck luncheon to follow the service and the Rev. Christmas for Kids applications due Nov. 15
The deadline for Moscow families to apply for Christmas for Kids is Nov. 15 and applications can be found at the Hope Center, 1212 Pullman Rd., in Moscow or online at christmasforkidsmoscow.org. Christmas For Kids offers clothing, toys and books to children of families who need assistance due to hard times. For more information visit christmasforkidsmoscow.org.
Inaugural Ethan Chapin scholarship awarded to brother
The first Ethan Chapin Memorial Scholarship was awarded to University of Idaho Sigma Chi member Hunter Chapin during a fraternity chapter house meeting in October. The fraternity unveiled a plaque in honor of Ethan which will be placed within the house. Stacy and Jim Chapin attended the scholarship dinner as well as Maizie Chapin, Ethan and Hunter’s triplet sister.
Ethan Chapin was killed on Nov. 13 in an off-campus residence along with UI classmates Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen.
The scholarship will cover $5,000 of the recipient’s tuition. The amount can increase each year with the endowment and more information can be found online at sigmachi.org/ethan.
During the dinner, 2022-23 chapter president Reed Ofsthun was honored for his leadership. Ofsthun received the Undergraduate Award of Distinction from the North American Interfraternity Conference in June.
BookPeople of Moscow celebrates 50th anniversary
BookPeople of Moscow will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an open house from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 15 at the store, 521 S. Main St., Moscow. There will be refreshments and book signings by local authors including Kim Barnes, Alexandra Teague, Eija Sumner and Annette Pimentel.
BookPeople owners, Carol Price and Steffen Werner, will introduce the new co-owner Breanne Pickens. Pickens is a Boise native and University of Idaho graduate who has worked at the bookstore for more than five years. Ivar Nelson, the original founder of the store will also be at the open house. Disability Action Northwest offers free cooking class
Disability Action Northwest and Latah Alliance on Mental Health will have a free cooking class from 2-3:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the 1912 Center, 412 E. Third St., Moscow. The class will cover shopping techniques, cooking skills and tools needed to make breakfast, lunch and dinner for one person.
The class will also include a free cookbook for all registered. Registration can be done online at givepulse.com/event/405220. Space is limited and registration will close at noon Nov. 15 or when space is filled. Those in need of accommodations can call Disability Action Northwest at (208) 883-0523 by Monday for assistance.
Palouse Habitat for Humanity receives Wells Fargo Grant
The Palouse Habitat for Humanity received a $15,000 grant for the building of the house in Palouse. The grant is part of $7.75 million donated to Habitat for Humanity International from the Wells Fargo Builds program, which supports the construction, renovation and repairing of affordable houses across the United States.
Wells Fargo employees assisted with painting and calking the exterior siding of the Blair family home in Palouse. Palouse Habitat for Humanity was started in 1992 and building homes across the Palouse for low income families. For more information visit palousehabitat.org.
Colton and Uniontown libraries have recipe exchange
The Colton and Uniontown libraries will have a recipe and cookbook exchange throughout the month of November. Participants can pick or or drop off recipes at either branch and each participant will receive a copy of all shared recipes.
