The Moscow man accused of kidnapping his 2-year-old daughter and fleeing to Mexico has been ordered to appear in federal court.

The U.S. Department of Justice charged 21-year-old Aaron Aung on Monday in Spokane with international parental kidnapping, according to court documents.

Aung had previously been indicted for first-degree custodial interference locally when the Pullman Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest in June.

Aung’s daughter was reported missing in early June when the two allegedly failed to show up for a custody exchange with the toddler’s mother in Pullman.

Investigators believed they had supposedly been on a fishing trip in Montana, until border patrol cameras reportedly caught them traveling to Mexico that month.

Mexican authorities located the two July 7 with Aung’s fiancee, former Pullman resident Nadia Cole, 21. Cole had been reported missing to the Port of Seattle Police Department after not boarding a flight with her family in late May.

If convicted on the federal charge, Aung could spend up to three years in prison, according to the U.S. Department of Justice’s website.
