Elk City man found dead in Juliaetta

A 47-year-old Elk City man was found dead Monday afternoon on the side of the road on Fourth Street in Juliaetta.

According to the Latah County Sheriff’s Office, the man, Steven A. Zimmerman, was found around 3:47 p.m. Monday in a 3-foot deep drainage ditch by a high school student walking home from school.

Zimmerman was last seen alive at a bar on Main Street around 12:15 a.m. Monday. The department believes Zimmerman fell several times and struck his head after leaving the bar and while walking back to a residence he had been staying at on Walter Street.

Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt has scheduled an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
