The Humane Society of the Palouse, in Moscow, received a national grant to support operations at the shelter.

The organization was given a $10,000 grant by Maddie’s Fund, a nationwide charitable family foundation established by Dave and Cheryl Duffield to revolutionize the well-being of animal companions, according to a news release Wednesday afternoon by the humane society.

The grant will finance general operating expenses. This will allow shelter staff to focus their attention on reuniting lost pets with their families, and finding homes for adoptable pets.

It will also supply vouchers for discounted spay and neuter surgeries, provide low-cost pet identification and offer pet food free of charge to those in need in Latah County, according to the news release.

The humane society received an initial grant from Maddie’s Fund in July of 2022 amounting to $12,500 to support daily operations.

Founded in 1978, the humane society is a no-kill animal shelter with a mission to ensure humane treatment, welfare and safety for companion animals in Moscow and Latah County, according to the news release.

It strives to prevent animal cruelty and minimize euthanasia, while certifying pets are adopted by responsible owners. The shelter also promotes spaying and neutering, as well as educating the public regarding responsible pet ownership, according to the news release.
