Moscow-Pullman Christmas Bird Count participant call

The Palouse Audubon Society will have the 53rd annual Moscow-Pullman Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 16. Participants will spend the day counting birds at their feeder or in the field.

Those interested in participating on the Washington side should email Marie Dymkoski at marie-dymkoski@msn.com or Kelly Cassidy at highsteppe@icloud.com by Dec.13. Those interested on the Idaho side should email Kas Dumroese at kas.birder@gmail.com.

Port of Whitman County completes broadband project

The port of Whitman County and the cities of Malden and Pine City have completed the Rural Whitman County Broadband Project, which installed fiber optics networks to rural communities in the county. The underground fiber cables will provide service to about 70 homes.

In October 2022, speed tests registered connections no faster than 16/2 Mbps and the new fiber will support speeds of 1 Gbps.

The project funding came from a $1,734.921 grant from the Coronavirus Capital Project Fund and $433, 730 from the Washington State Broadband Office’s Match grant program.

Showing of ‘Hook’ to raise money for food pantry

Daniel Haley, of Moscow, will perform a free showing of “Hook” to celebrate his 40th birthday at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center, 508 S. Main St., Moscow. The showing is free and attendees are asked to bring donations for the West Side Food Pantry, located at 730 W. Pullman Road, in Moscow.

The West Side Food Pantry will be collecting items in the lobby. Items requested include: canned meats, canned fruits or vegetables, boxed meals, spices, condiments, peanut butter, soups, jams and more. Personal hygiene products include soap, shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant.
