Pumpkin Festival returns to WSU organic farm
The Washington State University Eggert Family Organic Farm will have the annual u-pick pumpkin sales and festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the farm, located on Animal Sciences Road behind the WSU Bear Research Center. The festival is free and will have games, face painting and more. Pumpkin pies and cider will be available for purchase and all proceeds will go to the Organic Agriculture Club.
All pumpkins will be prepriced and can be purchased after picking. The farm stand will be open with a selection of fall crops including potatoes, onions, shallots, and winter squash. WSU plans events for National Banned Books Week
Washington State University has events for National Banned Books Week starting Tuesday with a panel discussing banned books from around the world at 6-7:15 p.m. at the Terrell Library Atrium, 140 Glenn Terrell Mall, Pullman. The speakers will have readings and reflections and refreshments will be provided.
A panel on “History in the Future” is planned from 12:10-1 p.m. Wednesday in the Terrell Library Atrium. The panel will discuss the impacts of decreased access to historical information which can come from book and curriculum bans.
Students, faculty and administrators will be giving readings from banned books during the noon hours throughout the week at the Bookman Statue in front of the library. The readings will include “The Diary of a Young Girl,” by Anne Frank, “Leaves of Grass,” by Walt Whitman and “This Book is Gay,” by Juno Dawson. The quilt made by the Community Congregational United Church of Christ will be on display in the upper atrium of the library.
Lionel Hampton Jazz Fest poster to be unveiled Wednesday
The 2024 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival poster will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Third Street Gallery, 206 E. Third St., in Moscow. The poster was designed by artist Shogo Ota, a University of Idaho graduate. A limited number of prints will be available for purchase.
Previous Jazz Festival posters will be on display and music will be provided by the University of Idaho Jazz Choir two and World Beat Ensemble. Light refreshments will be provided.
St. Marks Episcopal Church to bless animals Sunday
St. Marks Episcopal Church in Moscow will have an animal blessing at 11 a.m. Sunday either in the church or on the lawn located at 111 S. Jefferson St. Pets and people are welcome to the 9:30 a.m. service before the blessing.
The blessing is part of the observation of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, who was born in the 12th century and is considered the patron saint of animals and the environment.
