Candidate forum at UI set for Tuesday

A candidate forum is scheduled from 5-6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Vandal Lounge on the second floor of the Idaho Student Union Building, on the University of Idaho campus.

The forum is organized by the University of Idaho ASUI and the Moscow League of Women Voters.

Moscow City Council candidates will have the stage between 5 and 6 p.m., followed by Moscow School Board candidates in Zone 4 from 6-6:45 p.m.

Landlord association to have workshop in Pullman

The Whitman County Landlord Association will have a free Landlord 101 workshop from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 25 in Room 208 of building B of the Pullman Recreation Center, 190 SE Crestview St., Pullman. The workshop is open to those interested in rental properties or current landlords.

The workshop will cover recent laws and topics like applicant screening, rental agreements, leases, management alternatives, Washington State Landlord-Tenant law and rental property insurance. Registration is required and can be done by emailing whitmancla@gmail.com.

Cameron Bazaar in Kendrick offers turkey dinner

The Cameron Bazaar will have a full turkey dinner from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Cameron Lutheran Church, 12633 Cameron Road, Kendrick. The church is 4 miles east of Kendrick off Southwick Road. The cost is $15 for anyone older than 16, $10 for children ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger.

There will be a homemade turkey dinner with all the trimmings with gluten free options. Take-away trays will be available. After dinner, there will be an auction of quilts, embroidered tea towels, centerpieces, holiday decor and more. The dinner and auction benefits more than 15 local and international charities.

Moscow Contemporary opens new exhibit

Moscow Contemporary opened a new exhibit Friday featuring the writing and photography of Marcus Jackson. The exhibit will remain on display until Dec. 30. A reception is planned from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Moscow Contemporary, 414 S. Main St., Moscow.

The exhibit is part of the University of Idaho Creative Writing Program’s Distinguished Visiting Writer program and Jackson will participate in activities across campus and the community. The exhibit shows photos taken in Ohio and New York during 2020 and 2021 and is titled after the 1962 poem “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden.

Jackson is a writer and photographer who has a masters of fine arts from New York University and was a Cave Canem Fellow. His writing has been published in “The American Poetry Review,” “The New Yorker” and “The New York Times Magazine.” Jackson lives in Columbus, Ohio, and teaches at Ohio State University.
