Panel to discuss student voting
A panel discussion, “Voting 101 for Students,” is scheduled from 5-6 p.m. today at the Associated Students University of Idaho Vandal Lounge. The lounge is on the second floor of the Idaho Student Union Building on campus.
The discussion will feature Moscow City Councilor Bryce Blankenship and Latah County Clerk Julie Fry. It is sponsored by the ASUI in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of Moscow. The discussion and accompanying resource table will provide students with information about voting and new registration laws recently enacted by the state of Idaho.
Moscow’s red light district the focus of talk
Local historian Priscilla Wegars will speak Thursday about the little-known red light district in Moscow.
Wegars’s presentation is part of the Suds with a Scholar series, and is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Lecompte Auditorium at the 1912 Center in Moscow.
Wegars is a historical archaeologist, artifact analyst, and founder of the University of Idaho’s Asian American Comparative Collection as well as the author and editor of numerous books on the history of Asian Americans in the West.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are available at the door; $8 for LCHS members and $10 for nonmembers. Beer and nonalcoholic beverages are available for purchase courtesy of the Moscow Alehouse.
Proceeds from Suds with a Scholar support the preservation of the historic McConnell Mansion and the ongoing work of the Latah County Historical Society.
Fishing derby set for Moscow on Saturday
The annual Kiwanis Kids Free Fishing Clinic is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kiwanis Hordemann Pond Park in Moscow.
This event is a joint effort between Idaho Fish and Game Department, Moscow Kiwanis and Moscow Parks and Recreation Department. Children must be 14 or younger and accompanied by an adult (not necessarily a parent). No fishing license is necessary. Fishing gear and information will be provided by IDFG volunteers. Kiwanians will serve hot cocoa and granola bars, with coffee for the adults. Volunteers will assist children with fishing and identifying, cleaning and packaging any fish they catch.
