Firefighters from Moscow Rural Fire District douse an area off of Four Mile Road and Saddle Ridge Road in Viola that was engulfed by flames on Wednesday afternoon. ​​​​​The grass fire threatened two homes. Latah County Sheriff Richie Skiles said the fire came within 50 to 75 feet of two houses but they were not damaged, and Four Mile Road closed temporarily. The Moscow Rural Fire District, Latah County Sheriff’s Office and a man with a water tank in the back of a truck responded. Skiles said it is believed the fire started from a construction crew cutting rebar and sparking dead grass nearby. He said the construction crew tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose but the strong winds kept the blaze going.
