Pullman's site plan review committee met Thursday to discuss an application for what could be the city's fourth marijuana shop.
Pullman Planning Director Pete Dickinson told the Daily News the committee would make a preliminary decision on the application, to either approve, deny or request additional information, before the application goes to Public Works Director Kevin Gardes for an official decision.
Dickinson said that decision would likely be made public by early next week.
NSK Cannabis LLC filed the site plan application to the city last week to remodel what was once Upper Cut hair salon, 1212 N. Grand Ave., across from Dissmore's IGA, into a cannabis shop.
Though the site plan review committee met Thursday, Dickinson said a contractor for the business had already begun the demolition process Thursday and claimed to have a demolition permit.
NSK Cannabis has held a Washington state license to conduct marijuana sales in Pullman for several years, though it faced difficulty finding a location that would conform to state and local regulations, according to a newsletter from the Planning Department.
It is registered with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries as NSK Enterprises LLC out of Lynnwood, Wash. It's principal owner, according to the Labor and Industries website, is Kiflom Alem Abraha. Other governing persons are Mehari Gebremichael, Mahari K.K. Tsegai and Michael K. Tsegai.
State law allows for a maximum of five marijuana shops in Pullman city limits. Another two shops, Bud Hut and Floyd's Cannabis Co., also operate just outside of city limits in the Pullman-Moscow corridor, the maximum allowed in Whitman County's unincorporated areas.
