The Nisqually John Fire northwest of Clarkston was estimated Saturday morning to have burned 1,150 acres and is 0% contained, according to an update from the Northeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team.

But the fire isn't progressing, according to the update.

Crews are mapping the fire along the Snake River, and the acreage estimate is expected to change. Steptoe Canyon Road and Wawawai Road along the Snake River are open, but fire crews are working in the area and the public is asked to avoid the area for the safety of the crews, according to a news release from the incident management.

Today's weather conditions are a mixed bag for those fighting the wildfire. Scattered showers and higher relative humidity will "help reduce fire behavior," according to the news release, but winds are expected to be around 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, which could push the fire along.

The progression of the fire was stopped as of the Saturday morning update and it has been partially lined with fire retardant. More crews will be brought in the fight the blaze.

Management of the fire was officially transferred from the Whitman County Fire District and Washington State Patrol to the Northeast Washington Interagency Type 3 Incident Management Team #2 as of 6 a.m. Saturday.

The incident command post is located at Colton High School.
