Betty Williamson, 88, a beloved wife and mother, departed this world peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at home, after living a rich life of service and kindness.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1935, to Joseph and Sara Hightower, at Goosecreek, Texas. She was known for her sharp wit and sense of humor. Betty was a beacon of light in the Bovill community, touching many lives for over 50 years. Betty was a faithful member of the Catholic community, living in a convent in her youth, and attending Easter Mass at the Vatican with Pope Francis.
In her early years, she was a switchboard operator for the Southern Bell Telephone Company and the railroad, then a United States Marine, being one of the first women in the Marine Corps., during the Korean War.
She is survived by her husband, Asa; sons, Robin, Michael and Daniel; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca.
There will be a Catholic graveside service at 9 a.m. Friday, July 19, at the Bovill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
