Ernest C. Smith, 78, of Troy, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Jan. 15, 2024.
He was born in Moscow to Clarence Smith, of Troy, and Martha (Shenaman) Smith, of Beaver City, Neb., and was raised in Troy. Following graduation from Troy High School, he attended the College of Idaho, played football and enjoyed social life. He married Linda Deesten, of Moscow, in 1968. They moved back to Troy and raised their children Lori and Ole. Ernest most enjoyed being involved in small town activities and farming.
He later remarried Alice (Lucker Polichio) of Council, Idaho. He resided in his hometown of Troy with his beloved wife Alice until his death. He is survived by his wife Alice, his children Lori (Thomas) Rohde of Athol, Idaho and Ole (Sarah) Smith of Snoqualmie, Wash., and stepchildren Michelle Polichio of Greenville, Pa., and Michael Polichio of Bridgeville, Pa. His sister Louise (Richard) Marone of Moscow, brothers John (Darlene) Smith of Lewiston and Bruce (Rebecca) Smith of Troy. He had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer.
