Karl Karey White III

Karl Karey White III, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at rest in his home in Post Falls. Karl was born Aug. 17 1942, in Savannah, Ga., to Pauline Young White and Karl White Jr.

Throughout his life Karl was a great tinkerer and this propensity was never better encapsulated than in an oft retold story of a youngster with a soot-blackened face and missing eyebrows attempting, unsuccessfully, to convince his mother nothing had happened to cause that explosion she heard in the basement.

Karl graduated from Penncrest High School in Media, Pa., where he met and later married Kathryn Wood. They were married 42 years until her death and together had four children.

Karl became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, graduating from Penn State and Cornell University. He was partner in a private practice in Morgan Hill, Calif., before returning to Cornell as head of their Large Animal Clinic. He finished his career as Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University where he pioneered advancements in the humane teaching of veterinary surgery.

Karl spent his retirement tinkering, traveling and regaling family with his many stories. He was particularly fond of recalling the time he flew to the United Arab Emirates by the royal request to consult on a prized racing camel.

Karl is survived by his children Karey White, Kristina Detwiler, Kraig White, Katie Rust and their families.
