Leonard A. Neubert, 71, died Oct. 31, 2012, in Bremerton, Wash. Formerly of South Charleston, W.Va., he was born Oct. 5, 1941, in Colfax, Wash., to Alfred M. and Natalie Sevals Neubert.
Len grew up in eastern Washington, hiking, skiing and fishing in the Cascades, working in the orchards of the Prosser, Wash., area, and was an Eagle Scout. The son of chemists, he earned a B.S. from Washington State University, 1964, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University, 1969.
He served in Vietnam (Army I Corps) as captain, field artillery. Returning to UI for post-doctoral work, he also obtained an M.L.S. in information science, came to the Union Carbide Technical Center in South Charleston and retired in 2001. He was a member and elder at First Presbyterian Church, South Charleston.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Stephen Neubert, and infant daughter, Megan. He is survived by sons, Jacob Neubert and John Neubert, both of South Charleston; sister, Nancy Neubert Gillespie and her husband Jim Gillespie, of Pullman; niece, Tana Gillespie Judy, of Clarkston; and former wife, Nancy Malecek, of Charleston.
