Loyd Francis Falen

Loyd Francis Falen, of Moscow, died Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his home in Moscow. He was 83.

Loyd was born July 11, 1940, in Caldwell, to Charles and Letha (Phipps), as the youngest of three boys, and raised on the family ranch on Juniper Creek in Owyhee County.

He graduated high school in Marsing and went on to the University of Idaho obtaining a master’s degree in animal nutrition. There he met and married Deborah Sue Chipman and had four children: Kelvin Loyd, Douglas Leroy, Dennis Elroy and Tammy Sue.

Loyd spent his career at Washington State University Animal Sciences Department until his retirement. He continued to raise a family with the addition of Cheyenne Elizabeth and Nathaniel Joseph. He was active in mentoring with Boy Scouts and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling about the outdoors.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Roger; and his sons, Kelvin and Doug. He is survived by his wife Debbie, children Dennis and Tammy, niece Cheyenne and nephew Nathaniel.

Loyd will always be remembered for his quiet and measured temperament, sense of humor, and the many ways he demonstrated love to his family and others through his example. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Blaine Street Chapel, 1657 S. Blaine St., Moscow. Viewing will be held in the Relief Society Room one hour prior to the services.
