Marshal John Scott “Scotty” passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Chehalis, Wash. He was born April 28, 1941, in Colfax to John Seth Scott and Mildred Idella (Rowley) Scott. Marshall attended Pullman High School before joining the U.S. Navy in 1959.
Marshall served in the Navy from 1959 to 1963 in naval aviation as a navigator with the Heavy Attack Squadron 123. In 1963, he married Barbra Haynes; they were married for 38 years and had two children before divorcing after 38 years. After his naval service he returned to Pullman to work as a reactor operator at the Washington State University Radiation Center (Nuclear Science Center). Marshall eventually retired from the Radiation Center after 33 years of state service spending his time puttering around the house, working on his boat and holding a part-time job to keep himself busy. He would later realize his dream of living aboard a boat in Scappose, Ore., until 2001 when he moved to Vancouver, Wash.
His hobbies were many and included being an avid WSU Cougar fan, any sort of do-it-yourself project (dangerous or not), water sports (especially his boats), snow and water skiing, spending time on the Snake River (Boyer Park), and spending time with family and friends.
Marshall is survived by his brother Ronald Scott, of Spokane; his sons, John R. Scott, of Chehalis, and Lance Scott, of San Diego; and his three grandchildren, Hayden Macdonald-Scott, of Chehalis, Emma Macdonald-Scott, of Olympia and Skyler Scott, of Vancouver. As well as his many friends who loved and cared for him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Scott and his father, John S. Scott.
A small gathering for family is planned to be held at the Snake River (Scotty’s favorite place) in lieu of a service. Memorial donations may be made in Marshall’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
