Our beloved Judy passed away Feb. 26, 2018. She died in her home after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Judy was born in Colfax on March 11, 1947. She grew up in Pullman and attended WSU after high school. In 1968, she married high school sweetheart Tim Busch. They graduated from WSU in 1969, and both began their teaching careers in Bothell, Wash. They returned to Pullman in 1972. For the next 15 years, she was a stay-at-home mom with their three daughters. She returned to teaching as an art specialist in the Pullman School District, until her retirement in 2005.
Judy was an artist who experimented across many media over the years, favoring silk screen printing, painting and ceramics. She was a dedicated walker, an avid reader, and found a later-in-life passion for dance, particularly NIA, where she was a near-daily devotee.
Her family was dear to her heart. She and Tim would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. Her daughters and grandchildren brought great joy to her life. In recent years, she and Tim enjoyed travels to Europe, Mexico and Hawaii, where she developed a love for snorkeling.
She is survived by her husband, Tim; daughters, Angela Anderson (Jon), Holly Herbison (Gabe) and Katie Torres; her six grandchildren, Rachel and Ava Anderson, Isaac and Hazel Herbison, and Jordi and Daniela Torres. She is also survived by sisters, Patty Wixon (Vince) and Sally Kilpatrick, and brothers Paul Maughan (Karen), David Maughan (Cathleen) and Lowell Maughan (Linda). She was preceded in death by her father, Orlo Maughan; mother, H. Delight Maughan; and brother, Peter Maughan.
The family would like thank Cancer Care Northwest, Dr. Susanna Mourton, Kindred Hospice for their loving care and support, as well as the special care and support given by Darin Porter at Pullman Regional Hospital. Donations in her name may be made to Friends of Hospice, PO Box 484, Pullman, WA 99163 or Family Promise of the Palouse (familypromiseofthepalouse.org).
A memorial celebration honoring Judy's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the Gladish Community and Cultural Center View Room, 115 NW State St., Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.kimballfuneralhome.com.
