OBITUARY: Roger Guy Maynard

Roger Guy Maynard, 77, of Pullman, passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at Whitman Senior Living Community in Pullman. Roger was born July 21, 1932, in Manhattan, New York. He was raised in New York by his mother Blanche Gardner Maynard. Following his graduation from high school Roger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, actively serving for 30 years. He married Luz Quianio on Oct. 25, 1952. He traveled, lived and raised his family all around the world where his career took the family to many places including Greece, Turkey, Japan, Portugal and Spain. He served as Director of Armed Forces Radio & Television while in Karamursel, Turkey.

Roger was a decorated Chief Master Sergeant with honors that included the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars; Meritorious Unit Commendation; U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He retired from the Air Force in 1980 following 30 years of service. He enjoyed airplanes, his many boats, traveling, time spent with family and fine cuisine. Roger was a lifelong member of the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Maynard of Pullman; his daughter, Patti Druffel and son-in-law, Daryl, of Colton; his daughter-in-law, Dorina Maynard; 10 grandchildren Johnny Moreno, Kathy Bray, Stephanie Hammond, Ryan and Dylan Sparkman, Nick and Savannah Maynard, Shea and Kelsey Druffel and Aaron Moore; and five great-grandsons Drew and Devin Bray, Isaac and Jason Hammond and Aiden Moore. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Moore, in 1987 and his son, Robert Maynard, in 2009.

A memorial service celebrating Roger's life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Whitman Senior Living Community, 1285 SW Center St., in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.kimballfh.net
